This is an archive of my blogs “shimmery footsteps” and “shimmery footsteps japanese” that existed from August 2004 to January 2010. I imported them from Typepad.

Because of the simple and amazing technology of Importing (that I still fail to understand completely) some posts may exist in two forms, completely identical other than the language (English or Japanese). This is because I originally started the blogs with the hope that I will always blog in the two languages. I ended up mostly blogging in English only though.

As of now I am on an indefinite hiatus from blogging.

I went to a different Thai restaurant today than the one pictured above with a different friend.

The food was not as good but the company and conversation was just as nice.

I learned of Michael’s Pollan’s latest book “Food Rules” through this article on the New York Times Well blog.

His “Omnivore’s Dillema” has been on my Amazon wish list for a few years now and I just recently enjoyed watching him in the documentary film, “Food, Inc”. His appearance on Jon Stewart’s Daily Show was also very witty and smart. I’ve been carrying around his article “Unhappy Meals” from the New York Times Magazine to read in the train. Not only do I appreciate the information and ideas this man is spreading, but the way he does it – so clever, clear, and easy to understand. He clarifies a lot of information the food industry has worked tirelessly to leave us in confusion.

All this has made me want to read Eric Shlosser‘s Fast Food Nation again (a fantastically well investigated and researched book that’s also written very well). My list of food-related documentaries I want to see: Our Daily Bread, Black Gold, King Corn.

I’m hoping to also learn more about the food in Japan, starting with the books 「いのちの食べ方」and　「食品の裏側」.

I still have not come up with concrete goals for 2010 but being more
conscious and curious about the food I eat and generally eating better
may very well be it.

This post may very well include the highest number of links in the history of this blog! Whew! But all the information is well worth the effort.

I first learned about television show “Mad Men” in this article on Design Sponge and was intrigued.

I’ve watched two episodes now and am almost regretting it now. With the show’s Season 4 on the way, that’s a lot of episodes still to catch up on! I almost just want to read a very detailed summary of what happens and be done with it. Do you ever regret watching an episode of a series?

Needless to say, I think it’s a great show!
